Week 7: Goal Setting

We have continued to eliminate negative thinking, label read, recognize the importance of breathing, add positive affirmations into our daily lives, eliminate high fructose corn syrup (fructose as well) & dyes from our diet as well as sit in silence within nature for 30 minutes a day. This week we are going to start to set goals in our lives.

What are some things you would like to see come to fruition in your life? Great minds have said, if you can think it… it can be! No goal is too big however it is important when setting goals that you start with attainable and realistic ones that way they can be achieved and success will be felt.

Goals can be set for the day, week, month, year and so on. I personally have goals set throughout my life. I, however, tend to be great at seeing and working towards the long-term goals and just let my daily, weekly and monthly goals kind of take care of themselves. I see a major fault in this for me. Looking at the bigger picture, if I were to set goals in all areas, write them down and then see them come to light… I feel it would support my long-term goals even more. Some people are the opposite of this. They set immediate to monthly goals but don’t think 20+ years ahead.

Overall, setting goals is important for many reasons. It allows for greater focus, feelings of success with measurable outcomes, helps overcome procrastination, offers motivation and creates a road map to success in life. The most successful people have set goals all throughout their life and will continue to do so until they die. They understand that is the healthiest and one of the most successful ways of being.

This is a great time to soul search and find what matters to you in life. What do you want to achieve in life? What stamp do you want to make on your family? On the world? Do you feel you are working towards your life purpose? I know this may seem a little deep for setting daily goals, but it will all come together throughout the year.

So, let’s start with daily, weekly & monthly goals. Feel free to let your mind wander to yearly and longer but let’s just start here first. We are going to set 3 goals for each day of the week (this can be done each morning if desired), 3 goals for the week in general and 3 goals for the month. I will share my goals as an example.

Daily – meditate, breathe and clear out negative energy before adjusting anyone; cook healthy meals from scratch for my family; reduce the amount of time electronics used throughout my day

 Weekly – have weekly family meetings with Eva (our 10-year-old); continue to write ahead weeks for the New You in 52; continue to go to church (something my family finally initiated this year)

 Monthly – spend 2 days in 2 weekends a month having a mommy daughter date with Eva; review my budget and overall life overhead to reduce unnecessary spending; go on 2 dates a month with my wonderful hubby

I came up with these goals in just 5 minutes or so. Some of them have been in the works already and some I needed to add to better focus. Once our goals are attainable and written out, we need to put them in a place that they can be read each day. Maybe it is on the fridge, posted on your desk or a note on the dash of your car. If you can read your goals each day, not only will they be a reminder of your soon to be accomplishments… but many times the minds see things into becoming reality.

This may seem like a crazy example to some but this is the reality of how powerful our thoughts really are. My ex mother in law saw a house in Beverly Hills when she moved to the L.A. area. She looked at it while driving by and told her husband that the house she was now pointing to will be their house within so many years. He smiled and nodded but surely didn’t have the faith and conviction that she felt in setting that goal for her life. At that time, they were doing well but a house in Beverly Hills on the same street as many stars would seem absurd to some. Not to her. She helped her husband in all ways she knew to help him achieve success for himself and the family. Within a few years, that house was theirs and it wasn’t until they moved to onto bigger goals of living in Spain that they sold it.

I know this is far from a daily, weekly or monthly goal. I just want you to understand the mind is the most powerful tool that we have. It can create us as well as destroy us. It can raise us high and it can let us feel rock bottom. This week, we will practice setting our goals and letting our minds flow in creating bigger, amazing dreams that may one day with a made-up mind become reality! Only we create our own destiny!
